An Instagram caption generator writes the text under your photo or reel from a few facts you give it. The one in sona.to writes for Instagram's limits, in your language and tone, and gives you up to five versions to compare. This guide covers what makes an Instagram caption work and how to get one from AI that only needs a light edit.
What a good Instagram caption does
A caption has three jobs: make people stop on the post, give them the detail the photo cannot show and tell them what to do next. Most captions need only a few sentences for that.
Write the first line for the feed
In the feed, Instagram shows the first lines of a caption and hides the rest behind "more". Many people decide from those words alone whether to read on. Put the point of the post there: the news, the question or the detail that makes the photo interesting. Keep greetings and background for the lines after it.
How long should an Instagram caption be?
An Instagram caption can hold up to 2,200 characters. Short captions suit photos that speak for themselves. Longer ones suit tips, stories and announcements that people save to read again. Whatever the length, the first line carries the post. The character counter checks a draft against the limit of each network.
Break the text into short paragraphs
A long block of text is hard to read on a phone. Short paragraphs of one to three sentences, with an empty line between them, keep a long caption readable. The Instagram line break tool prepares a caption so its empty lines and spacing stay in place when you paste it into the Instagram app.
To set a word apart, the Instagram font generator writes it in bold, italic or other letter styles. Keep styled letters to a word or two, as screen readers often cannot read them as normal text.
Use up to five hashtags
Instagram announced in December 2025 that it would limit the hashtags in a post or reel caption to five, rolled out gradually. Choose the few that describe the post best: its subject, its place or its trade. Moving extra hashtags to the first comment does not get around the limit, because Instagram applies it to comments as well.
End with one clear next step
Close with a single request: a question to answer, a reason to save the post or the link in your bio when there is one. To name a partner or a customer, mention them with their @username, up to twenty per caption. Describe the photo itself in its alt text rather than in the caption: in sona.to each photo can have its own alt text of up to 1,000 characters.
Generate Instagram captions with AI in sona.to
Open AI Contents and describe the post in a sentence or two: what is new, the facts that matter, the details only you know. You can also start from a template sorted by goal or trade and fill in its fields. Then choose:
Written for: Instagram. The caption is written to fit Instagram's character limit.
Hashtags: 5 or fewer. They are added after an empty line, each written the same way and without duplicates.
Language and tone. The caption is written in the language you choose, whatever the language of your description.
Length. Short, medium, long or a set number of words. Short fits a photo that speaks for itself, long a tip or a story.
Results. Up to five versions at once, each opening with its own angle.
The generator uses only the facts you give about your business. It does not invent prices, dates, offers or opening hours, and when you give few facts it writes a shorter caption instead of filling the space. Each generation uses AI credits from your plan. The AI caption generator guide covers templates and the other networks, and the AI content generator page shows it at work.
Polish the caption in the composer
"Use in a post" opens the caption in the composer. There, Write with AI works on the text in the caption box: make it shorter or longer, fix the spelling, add three to five hashtags, translate it or follow an instruction you type, such as "open with the question". Text you reuse often, such as a sign-off or your opening hours, can be saved to Captions and added to any post.
Schedule the post to Instagram
Pick your Instagram account, choose Feed, Reels or Stories under Post To and set the time. A story goes out without a caption. Parts written after the caption are posted as the first comment, with the next parts replying under it. The Instagram scheduler page lists every option, from collaborators to the paid partnership label, and the Instagram post size guide gives the image dimensions for each format.
