Shorten the links in your posts and see their clicks by day, country and device. Make short links by hand or add them to posts, RSS feeds and CSV imports.
A URL shortener with analytics turns a long link into a short one and counts every click on it. In sona.to short links live on the esn.to domain and show clicks by day, country and device, so you can see which posts send people to your site. The link shortener page sums it up.
Why shorten the links in your posts
A long address with tracking codes takes room in a post and looks messy, and on networks with a character limit it costs characters you could use for the text. A short link reads cleanly. Most of all, it counts its clicks, which the networks' own figures do not always show for each link.
How to create a short link
There are several ways, depending on where the link is used:
By hand. Paste an address on the short links page and get an esn.to link to use anywhere: in a post, a bio, an email or a printed flyer.
In a post. Links in your posts can be shortened automatically.
From RSS feeds and CSV imports. Turn on the short link option in an RSS feed or a bulk import, and every link they post is shortened.
Through the API. Short links can also be made from your own code or an automation app.
What the click analytics show
Each link has its own page with the clicks per day, the countries they came from, the device, browser and operating system and the site the visitor came from. Previews made by social networks and messaging apps when a link is shared are not counted as clicks, so the counts stay close to real visits.
No IP address is stored. Click details are kept for 90 days, and daily totals for as long as the link exists.
UTM tags without typing them
UTM tags tell Google Analytics and similar tools where a visit came from. Set your default tags once and they are added to the links you shorten, so every visit from a post shows up with the right source in your site's statistics. To build tags for a single link by hand, use the free UTM builder.
Custom endings
Instead of a random code, a link can end with a word you choose, such as esn.to/summer-menu, which is easier to read aloud or print.
