A TikTok post has more than a caption. It has a viewer setting, comment, Duet and Stitch permissions, a cover and, for promotional content, a disclosure label. Which of these an account can use depends on its TikTok settings. sona.to reads them from TikTok for each account, so the composer only offers what that account allows.

Videos and photo posts

A post is one video, or a photo post of up to thirty five images. For photo posts, the caption becomes the description. Posts are published directly to the profile, straight away or at the time you schedule.

Each account has its own maximum video length, set by TikTok. The composer shows it, and a longer video is stopped before it is sent.

TikTok processes a post after it arrives. When it is done, the post gets its public link in sona.to. If TikTok refuses a post, it is marked as failed with the reason in plain words.

Options that match each account

The composer shows the account's name, @username and profile picture, with the options TikTok allows for it. An option the creator has turned off in their TikTok settings is greyed out, with the reason next to it.

With several TikTok accounts selected, the composer offers only the options they all share, so every account receives a post it can publish.

Who can view, comment, Duet and Stitch

Choose Public, Friends, Followers or Only me for each post, from the choices TikTok gives that account. There is no default setting, because TikTok asks for a choice on every post.

Comments, Duet and Stitch start switched off. Turn on the ones you want for that post.

Disclosure and AI labels

Turn on the disclosure setting when a post promotes goods or services. Choose Your brand when you promote your own business, and the post is labelled as promotional content. Choose Branded content when you promote another brand, and the post is labelled as a paid partnership. The composer shows the label before the post is published.

For a video made or changed with AI, turn on the AI-generated setting and TikTok adds its AI-generated label to the post.

Covers, music and photo sizes

Pick the cover for a video by choosing the second of the video to use. For a photo post, pick which photo is the cover.

Photo posts can include recommended music, which TikTok adds to the photos.

TikTok refuses PNG photos and photos above a certain size, and one refused photo stops the whole post. sona.to resizes and converts those photos to JPEG before sending. Photos that already meet TikTok's rules are sent unchanged.

Timing

TikTok shows posts in the For You feed to people who do not follow the account, so a post can still get views after the first hours. The hour matters less than on Mastodon or Bluesky, where posts appear in time order, but the first views still come from people who are awake when it is published.
