Instagram engagement rate calculator compared with creators your size
Engagement rate for Instagram posts by followers, reach or views, compared with creators of the same size.
Instagram does not show an engagement rate, so creators and brands work it out themselves. The most common way is likes and comments per post divided by followers, which also works for accounts you do not own. With access to the account insights you can divide by reach or views instead and count shares and saves.
Add up the numbers of all the posts you include. Several posts give a fairer result than one post that did unusually well.
The same Instagram post can show 0.4% when divided by followers and 5% when divided by reach. Compare a rate only with one measured the same way.
Usual engagement rates on Instagram
The median by followers for creators is 2.79% under 10,000 followers, 0.97% from 10,000 to 100,000, 0.87% from 100,000 to 500,000, 0.89% from 500,000 to 1 million and 0.83% above 1 million. The rate falls fastest in the first few thousand followers.
Followers, reach or views
Dividing by followers gives a much smaller number than dividing by reach, because many followers never see a given post. Brand posts on Instagram have a median of about 5.5% by reach and an average of 1.9% by views.
