Engagement rate calculator for posts on eight networks

Work out the engagement rate of one post or several by followers, reach, impressions or views, on eight networks.

Engagement rate is the share of people who react to a post: likes, comments, shares and saves divided by followers or by how many people saw it. What you divide by changes the answer more than anything else, so the calculator asks for it first and compares your result only with a usual rate measured the same way.

Divide by

Add up the numbers of all the posts you include. Several posts give a fairer result than one post that did unusually well.

Why the method matters

The same Instagram post can show 0.4% when divided by followers and 5% when divided by reach. Compare a rate only with one measured the same way.

How to calculate engagement rate

By followers, add the interactions on your posts, divide by the number of posts, divide by followers and multiply by 100. By reach, impressions or views, add the interactions and divide by the total reach, impressions or views of the same posts, then multiply by 100.

Which method to use

Followers work for any account, including someone else's, because the number is public. Reach, impressions and views need the account insights but show how the people who saw a post responded. X, LinkedIn and Pinterest define their own rate by impressions.

Where the usual rates come from

By followers on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube, the usual rate is the median for creators of the same size, from a 2026 study of more than 140 million creator accounts. Below the bottom quarter of those creators counts as below the usual rate and above the top quarter as above. For the other methods the usual rate comes from 2026 studies of brand accounts.
