What size should a share image be?

1200 by 630, which is 1.91:1. That is what this tool exports. Larger works but gains nothing, and under about 600px wide most platforms give up on the large card and show a small thumbnail instead.

Should I export PNG or JPEG?

PNG for flat colors, gradients and text, where it stays sharp and the file is small. JPEG for anything with a photo in it, because a photo as PNG can run to several megabytes. The size limit option encodes the JPEG down until it fits under 600KB.

Where do I put the image once I have made it?

Upload it to your own site or wherever you keep files, then set og:image in the head of the page to its full address. The address must start with https and load without a login. To write the whole tag block, use the Meta Tag Generator.

Why is my text getting cut off on some platforms?

Because they crop to a different ratio and the cut is taken from the middle. Move the text inside the marked safe area. That area is sized for the tightest crop in common use, so what fits inside it survives everywhere.

Can I use my own font?

Not in this tool. The five faces here render the same way on any machine, which matters because the image is drawn in your browser rather than on a server. A font that exists only on your computer would produce a different image for somebody else.

Is my photo uploaded anywhere?

No. The photo is read from your disk by your browser, drawn onto the canvas locally and exported locally. Nothing is sent to sona.to and nothing is stored.

How do I check it actually looks right when shared?

Put the image on your page, then run the page through the Social Share Preview to see the card each platform builds from it. That reads the tags off the live page rather than guessing.

WhatsApp wants the file under 600KB or it shows a small preview instead. The other platforms allow far more, so use PNG unless the image has a photo in it.

Why a screenshot does not work

A screenshot is the wrong shape and full of detail that disappears. The card is rendered small, often a couple of hundred pixels wide on a phone, and a platform crops from the middle to reach 1.91:1. Interface text, thin lines and anything near an edge are gone by then. What survives at that size is a short line of large type and one strong shape, which is why share images look the way they do.

The crop takes the middle

Platforms do not all use the same aspect ratio, so they cut your image to fit. The cut comes from the center outward, which means the top, the bottom and both edges are the parts at risk. The guides here mark the area that survives the tightest common crop. Keep the headline and the logo inside it and the image reads correctly everywhere, rather than only in the one place you tested.

File size is a real limit

WhatsApp documents a ceiling of 600KB and X rejects anything over 5MB. A photo background at 1200 by 630 can pass 600KB easily as a PNG. Exporting as JPEG with the size limit on runs the quality down until the file fits, which is almost always invisible at the size a card is displayed. Use PNG when the background is a flat color or a gradient, since those compress to very little and stay perfectly sharp.

Nothing leaves your browser

The canvas is drawn on your own machine and the export is produced there too. A photo you add is read from your disk and never sent, and the finished image is saved straight from the page. There is no account, no upload and no copy of your work on any server, which also means nothing here can be recovered once you close the page.

Write the headline

Keep it short. A card is read at a glance and long headlines get cut by the platform before the image even matters.

Choose a background

A solid color or gradient is the safest and gives the smallest file. Drop in a photo instead if you have one, and raise the dim until the text is comfortable to read.

Save the file, upload it to your own site, then point og:image at its address. The address has to be reachable without logging in.
